Apex Mountain on The Rewatchables
32:55 – 39:03… with a switchblade. I thought Shay was going to say, when I used to swim with a switchblade. It raised the stakes that that scene did for me. We're going to Apex Mountain. Ooh. Ripping off a couple names, deciding whether this was the apex of their career. Lori Petty. I literally don't know who Lori Petty is. She's the girl. Tyler. No, I know Tyler. I'm saying like otherwise. I couldn't name you. So she was League of Their Own. Free Willy. Patty Maness. She was Patty Maness? Yeah. Patty Maness. That's the answer then. And Orange is the New Black. Yeah, she's in Orange. She's great in that, by the way. She's …

And then it kind of like sets it like surfing is serious shit. Yeah. When you got a guy pulling a switchblade. Who swims with a switchblade? Like he just was in the ocean with a switchblade. She's like the neurotic. I think it's Tank Girl, though, because that was when they were like, you know what? Tank Girl's a good pick. Lori Petty's the name of Lester. Let's see if Lori Petty can carry a movie. But that would mean that's not her apex, because Tank Girl tanked. Yeah. It was appropriately named. I just think as a display of ambition, that somebody was like, you know what? Lori Petty. She's a movie star. I'm going Patty Maness. Okay. She was- That's a good cartoon. Yeah. She was kind of a leftover. The look she had in this movie was a leftover 80s. Yeah. Kind of that legend of Billie Jean. Kind of like the short hair, a little androgynous. She looks a little like Woody Harrelson. I remember being more attracted to her in 1991 before I had had more Woody Harrelson exposure. They actually look alike. Well, in the scene where she finds Utah's FBI badge and comes and shoots the pillow, she's got the shirt on, and she's got her chest exposed, but it's covering- Yeah. Yeah. I'm careful with my words. Yeah, androgynous would be the word. Gary Busey. I love Gary Busey. Apex Mountain? Apex? No. Surviving the game. Give me Gary Busey. Surviving the game. Okay. That's what I mean. Give me Gary Busey hunting the human. The correct answer is the Buddy Holly story, because I think he got nominated for an Oscar for that. You're probably right, but I'm going to get it. Surviving the game. My answer is Eye of the Tiger. I don't know if you know about this movie, where a biker gang kills his wife and daughter. Why don't I know about this movie? That sounds incredible already. I don't know about this. Shay, how do we not know about this? I've never heard of it. He comes back from Nam. He goes to prison, because the towns- Shay loves prison movies. He was in a war, and a prison, and his family was killed. The tagline is, Nam was hard, prison was harder, but this gang is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Shay, that sounds perfect. Did you write this movie? Did you black out? You don't remember? It's Pete Gary Busey for me. Eye of the Tiger. Shay and I, when the rewatchables is a massive success, Shay and I are spinning off into prison movie rewatchables, and we're just banging them out. Did you see Shot Caller yet? Oh, yeah. Of course I did. You loved it, right? The day it came out. Yeah. It was great. It was really, really, like, shockingly good. It was a good, like, not just a hokey prison movie. You watch it, because they don't explain anything. They just let everything cook until the end, and you realize, like, oh, my God, he really did that shit. He really did. It was fantastic. Shay's the only person I ever met who enjoys prison movies as much as I do. I was going to every prison movie under the scenario, how would I handle this? What would I do? And the move is always just to immediately get in a fight and prove that you're not going to take any shit. I'm getting a boyfriend, real fast. I'm not surviving a prison fight. There's no way I'm going to survive that. You got to do, like, the 25th hour where you get somebody to beat your ass before you go in. That's a good move. That's so you look tough when you go in. Oh, that's a good idea. Yeah. You got to do that or join a prison gang. Yeah. Well, we're going to cover all that on Prison Rewatchables, the new spinoff of the Rewatchables. Apex Mountain, Keanu Reeves. No. No. No way. No. I had to mention him. Yeah. You got to mention him. He's like- What is Keanu's Apex if it's not this movie? John Wick 2. It's The Matrix. It's got to be The Matrix for me. I think you can- That's a good pick, but I would go John Wick 2. I have a- You guys are going to be mad at me. Sure. I think it's Speed. Wow. Speed was in a- Like, a smash hit. Yeah. Yeah. Speed basically created the summer action movie. It was the first one that they released a little early, pushed it behind. He carries it. I think he's in every scene, basically. Yeah. It's a ridiculous movie with a ridiculous premise. 94. Okay. Speed is definitely a movie where I was surprised that he could carry that movie. He carried it and then some- You could say John Wick, but it's a little older. I mean, probably the answer is John Wick 2 because he's- Yeah. As Shane and I discussed before. The global superstar. Yeah. I don't know. He also did this- He also did this- He did this smart thing in Speed where he just took a different cop role where he cut the hair and he looked like more squared away, like a Marine or something. And he was bulked up. Yeah. He was good in that. You know who's great in that movie is Bullock. Bullock's great. She's fantastic. Yeah. She is so good in that movie. It totally makes sense that she became a massive star. Yeah. Because, yeah. Anyway. Last one, Swayze. Oh, yeah. Swayze. Swayze's like- This is the apex for him? Swayze is like in the fucking Milky Way galaxy. He's so high up there in this movie. What is Swayze's basketball box score in this movie? Because it's like, he plays 29 minutes. Yeah. He has like an Isaiah Thomas type of minute load, but he puts up like 37, 12, and 15. I remember when I was watching, you remember the movie Ghost in the Darkness? Yeah. Yeah. I like that movie. Okay. I was watching like the DVD commentary one day, just for whatever reason. And Michael Douglas was in it, and he was talking about how the ideal role in a movie is the person that they talk about in the beginning, and then you show up a third of the way into the movie, and then you die at the end. Like, that's the role everybody wants. And that's what Bodie was. I still think it's got to be Roadhouse, because when I watch Point Break, Swayze's obviously great. But when you watch Roadhouse, you're like, I need to be Patrick Swayze. Whatever it takes, I have to become that man. I have to become Dalton. I have to like just cross my arms at a bar. I have to make love to a woman like upstanding up against the wall. Like, I will do whatever it takes. Who gave me stitches. Who gave me stitches.
